Jakub Nepraš

Trafo Gallery has been selected to participate in the prestigious international contemporary art fair VOLTA Basel, which will take place from 18 to 22 June 2025 at Hall 4.U, Messeplatz 21, Basel, Switzerland. Volta art fair is known for its curatorial focus on distinctive individual presentations, this fair annually presents a carefully curated selection of galleries from around the world.
At VOLTA Basel 2025, Trafo Gallery will present the current work of artist Jakub Nepraš, one of the most prominent artists on the Czech art scene. Since his university years, Jakub Nepraš has been combining very topical themes in his work, such as the exponential growth of science and technology, excessive consumption and production, the rampant rise of civilization as a species, fake news and the fight against it, the impact of sunlight on the human psyche, etc. In his combined materials, he uses the communication between time-worked wood, stones, glass or recycled objects in contrast with miniaturized computers and hidden projections, often linked to actual data sources on the internet (e.g. stock market movements, the amount of fake news in the media space, NASA information on solar radiation).
Nepraš's novel authorial approach fascinates viewers of all generations and opens philosophical questions about the history and future of the human species, the direction of the planet, political dictatorships, and the possible birth of new digital species. His imagination and ingenuity stimulates the viewer's imagination and transports them to another reality.
Jakub will be the only exhibitor in the Trafo Gallery installation at VOLTA Basel 2025 and will present approximately seven installations in the space.
