Jiří Petrbok: Hell 3 Revisited, 1998 - 2015

528 Kč

The catalog of the painter Jiří Petrbok (1962), head of the drawing studio at the Academy of Fine Arts, refers in particular to the exhibition "Hell3 JDC Revisited, 1998–2015", which mapped his references and reflections on the work of Dino and Jake Chapman (their work was represented representatively at the exhibition "The blind leads the blind" in the Rudolfinum Gallery in Prague). The work of the Chapman brothers inspired Jiří Petrbok to create an extensive collection of paintings. It is characteristic of the author that he returns to seemingly finished paintings, completes them and completes them, regardless of whether it is a work that has already been exhibited or reproduced. This partially illuminates and justifies his alchemical manipulations of borrowed motifs - he completes and repaints the works of other artists. When creating paintings, Petrbok acts more like a musical composer, who puts musical notes next to each other, gradually adds or removes them, tries out different harmonies and chords. The exclusivity of the catalog is added by the fact that instead of the introduction, there is "A short story about the artist Jiří Petrbok" by Jake Chapman, which was written especially for this occasion.
