The functionalist Volman Villa in Čelákovice, one of the most significant private residences of the First Republic, will be transformed into a gallery of unique photographs from May 28 to August 31, 2026. Photographer Alžběta Jungrová will present the exhibition “Without End or Beginning”—a collection of works created directly within the villa’s spaces that engage with the emotion of the place, light, and unconventional installation materials.

The villa, designed in 1939 by architects Karel Janů and Jiří Štursa, was intended to be the dream home of Luďa Volmanová, daughter of the Čelákovice industrialist Josef Volman. However, she enjoyed her new home only briefly—after 1948, the family was forced to emigrate, and the villa lost its family character for decades. It was precisely this story that inspired Alžběta Jungrová, who uses her photographs to tell the untold stories of the house. The central figure is a woman—as narrator, character, and bearer of emotions.

“Through my photographs and the exhibition installation, I have tried to breathe life into the house—a life that never existed here due to the events of the 20th century. The villa itself is utterly timeless, so I’ve left the collection outside of any specific era, in a world where nothing begins or ends. I work solely with the emotions the building evokes, as well as with my own nostalgia for a vanishing world in today’s rapidly changing times,” says photographer Alžběta Jungrová.

The exhibition was curated by Blanka Čermáková of Trafo Gallery, who has long been involved in artistic installations at the villa. The project also includes a limited-edition book of photographs, which will be available on-site, at Trafo Gallery, and in select bookstores.

Admission is by reservation only. In addition to guided tours of the villa, a special early-evening visit format will be added for the exhibition. Tickets can be purchased at vilavolman.cz and GoOut.

We would like to thank Vila Volman and Canadian Medical for partnering with our exhibition project.
