Barbora Němcová

Bio

Barbora Němcová (*1972) studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the conceptual and intermedia studio (prof. A. Matasová). In 1998 she completed an internship in the Kov a Šperk studio (prof. V. K. Novák). Barbora B. Němcová finds inspiration in the places where she lives and connects the two positions of her work – hazy monochrome urban landscapes, where she captures urban spaces that are close to her and attract her attention. These are mostly sections on the city outskirts – the industrial periphery of Libeň, which is rapidly changing over time. And internal landscapes or landscapes of revelation, where elementary abstract forms are connected. Barbora B. Němcová looks behind the scenes of the city and searches for what is hidden at first glance. She shows reality as a cluster of moments, a stop in time – here and now. Characteristic of her work are essentially monochrome images. The choice of colors for each image is not conceptually thought out, but rather a matter of feeling. She works by spraying colors over carved stencils. These stencils serve as sketches and allow for the creation of compositions of images in subtle variations and color differences. This approach contributes to the different tone of the individual versions. Barbora B. Němcová's work is truthful, factual, honest, and convincing. By recording her views, the author discovers hidden messages full of poetry.
