Martin Salajka: Neurosis
10. 9. 2020 - 9. 10. 2020
Vystavující: Martin Salajka
Kurátor: Otto M. Urban
For his solo exhibition at the Trafo Gallery, the painter Martin Salajka has prepared a new cycle, which he calls the current decadence. His paintings feature a wild color, the author’s lush imagination, energy and an unstoppable flow of creative energy, where you sometimes see conscious references to works known from the history of art.
Martin Salajka graduated in 2008 at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts with prof. Michael Rittstein. He held his first solo exhibition in 2005 at the Youth Gallery in Brno, and since then he has organized more than two dozen solo exhibitions. His paintings and graphic works are inspired by nature, the Váchalova theme, the underwater world of fish, dark nocturnal creatures, wolves and dogs. The elemental and unfettered landscape, the oppressive desolation and the solitary existential souls next to the pack of night elements of the big city, together with the symbolist and surrealistic references of Salajk’s increasingly large canvases.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual publication summarizing the author’s work to date, including the latest canvases and an interview with curator Otto M. Urban.
