Mark Ther – Zeichnungen, 1928-

Mark Ther graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (painting studio of Vladimír Skrepl). Later he transferred to AVU to create new media (video art) under the pedagogical guidance of Michael Bielický. His short videos, shocking to many, often open sexual and historical taboos in Czech society. An important reflection of his work was the premature closure of his exhibition at the GHMP in the Old Town Hall in 2008 due to "homosexual and Nazi propaganda". In 2011, he won the Jindřich Chalupecký Prize for his video Das wandernde Sternlein (2011), which told the fictional story of the disappearance of children in the 1930s in the border region. The video shocked with its natural aesthetics – it indirectly depicted a pedophile act, but also contained a number of symbolic references and metaphors, a criminal complaint was filed against the DOX gallery for the distribution of child pornography.
