Jakub Tytykalo, Andrea Baštýřová – Metaphysical Bedtimestories

Andrea Baštýřová graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (drawing studio of Jiří Petrbok). Her works are recognizable through a strong fictional imagination, which she translates into drawings, objects and paintings. It moves smoothly between the surface and the object. For her drawings with significant technical skill, sensitivity for degrees of pressure as well as work with composition and perspective, sewn objects are surprisingly her models. She creates figures and characters that awaken the viewer's imagination and let him wander through the author's fantasy world to recognize what kind of creature she presented to him. In her imagination, Baštýřová connects a number of creatures whose elements can be compared to animals or creatures and monsters, but as a whole she creates remarkable unidentifiable creatures. She then captures it graphically. The object therefore returns to the surface in the form of a drawing or painting. In the medium of drawing and object, he works in various scales – from small figures, which mostly serve as models, to several-meter sculptures usually made of textiles. The same is the case with the drawing, where the chiselling and the author's precision stand out in a large format
